Carlos Soto Román (Santiago, Chile), an acclaimed poet, translator and literary critic, known for his dynamic contributions to the creation and comparative study of poetry and translation across languages, will be in residence at the University of Chicago as Tinker Visiting Professor in Winter 2025, hosted by the Department of Comparative Literature and the Center for Latin American Studies. He will give public lectures and teach a course titled “Writing the Unspeakable: History, Memory, and Reflection through Literature.”
Oksana Maksymchuk, an award winning Ukrainian writer and literary translator, will be in residence at the University of Chicago as Visiting Professor during the 2023-2024 academic year. She will speak about her experience publishing the anthology Words for War: New Poems from Ukraine (co-edited with Max Rosochinsky) and translating many writers including renowned Ukrainian poet Lyuba Yakimchuk.
Khalid Lyamlahy published the Arabic translation of Feline Sara's Habiter le monde (Mémoire d'encrier, 2017) in April 2022.
Kay Heikkinen was awarded the 2020 Saif Ghobash Banipal Prize for Arabic Literary Translation for her translation of the novel Velvet by Huzama Habayeb, published by Hoopoe Fiction.
